About

Katie in her orchard

Hi I am Katie Carter…

I believe the food choices we make are extremely important, not only because food is essential for the foundation of our health, but it also connects us to our emotions, creativity, intuition, wisdom, people, animals, nature and the universe.  Food can be a powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison. Its effect can impact more than just our physical body because we are all multi-faceted beings.

As a certified holistic nutrition consultant and seasoned yoga teacher, I am thrilled to become certified in a program called Food and Spirit™ . This educational program combines the physiology and psychology of food and eating and has expanded my vision of eating.

In my practice I specialize in helping busy, active men and women….

  • Balance blood sugar and stabilize mood swings
  • Strengthen immune function and live in relationship with an auto-immune disease or cancer diagnosis
  • Maintain a healthy weight, improve digestion, and feel energized
  • Understand hormone imbalances and warm up libido!
  • Build strong, healthy bones, skin and hair
  • And finally get a good night’s sleep

I don’t promote dieting, counting calories, or weighing food.
I teach the building blocks of a strong foundational body, mind, and spirit.
I help you understand your unique bio-chemistry and individual nutritional and lifestyle needs and…
I help clients gain scientific and spiritual insight on how your WHOLE BEING relates to food and eating.  And of most importance, I MOTIVATE, SUPPORT and HOLD YOU ACCOUNTABLE for your desired visions and goals.

My interest in nutrition and yoga started in my teens when I realized I was from a challenging genetic background. My family health history includes bi-polar, ADD, and addiction issues, ankylosing spondylitis (a rare form of rheumatoid arthritis), heart disease, and digestive disorders. I started my wellness journey then and continue to seek steady, physical energy, mental clarity, and peace of mind. I haven’t stopped yet, and at 64, with an open mind and strong body, I embrace the aging process.

I’ve been a teacher throughout my adult life. Along with raising two sons, I’ve owned two successful businesses in Nevada County, California. Through every stage I enjoyed learning from family and clientele, as well as educating them.

1975 – received a BA degree in fine arts – textiles from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and still love to work with fibers – currently making aprons!

1976 -1980 – co-owner, with Martha Meredith, Mountain Wool and Weaving Supply Company in Grass Valley, CA.

1995 -2007  – completed three certifications of yoga teacher training from Ananda Spiritual community, Erichh Schiffman, and Sarah Powers and was the founder/owner, instructor of Wild Mountain Yoga Center in Nevada City, CA.

June 2012 – graduated from Hawthorn University  with a 3-year certificate in Holistic Nutritional Counseling.

January – August 2015 (expected graduation from Food & Spirit™ certification)

I’ve been married to Bill Carter for 40 years, living on our 5-acre homestead in the Sierra Mountain foothills of Nevada City, CA. We built our own home, raised two vibrant sons, and grow organic vegetables, flowers, fruit trees, and a variety of berries.

I enjoy gardening, cooking, hiking/exploring our precious wilderness, practicing yoga, supporting community sustainability, and love spending time with family and friends.
